Conservation Tip

More plants die from over-watering, be sure only to water plants when necessary.

Do I need a Backflow Device?
A Backflow Prevention Device is required for all non-single-family services. This means that if you are requesting service for a commercial, multi-family, construction or farm property you will need to have a Backflow Prevention Device installed as a condition of service. We do not provide backflow service. A licensed plumber will need to install and a test certificate will need to be submitted to us. Please see our section on Cross-Connection/Backflow Device Requirements for more information.
How long will it take to get my water turned on?

We need 2-business days’ notice to have service established. First business day begins at 8am the business day following the submission of your application. We do not process applications on weekends or holidays. Please consult our holiday schedule (click here) to see when our offices will be closed.

Do I need to fill out a Service Application and pay a deposit?

Yes, in order to have service turned on or transferred we require an application and a deposit. You can fill out a new application, or contact our corporate office to have it emailed or faxed. Please contact our office once you have submitted your application to pay the deposit.

How much is the deposit and when is it refunded?
We require that a $95 deposit be paid before service can begin. This includes a $25 non-refundable establishment fee and a $70 refundable deposit. The refundable deposit is returned after one year of service provided all payments have been made on time. This will appear as a credit on your bill as Applied Deposit. If service is terminated and we still hold your deposit, it will be applied to your final bill.
Do you offer commercial services?
Yes, we provide water for commercial buildings. The application process is the same as residential but there is a special backflow provision for commercial properties.

Any commercial property or multi-family dwelling is required to have a Cross Connection Backflow as provided in Tariff Schedule CC-258, Cross Connection Control. Diversified Water Utilities, Inc. is committed to protect the public water supply in each of its water systems from the possibility of contamination caused by backflow through unprotected cross-connections by requiring the installation and annual testing of backflow-protection assemblies pursuant to the provisions of the Arizona Administrative Code, Title 14, Chapter 2, Section 405.B6 as adopted by the Arizona Corporation Commission.

Backflow Prevention

Backflow prevention devices are required to prevent unprotected water from entering into our water system. They are required for all non single-family properties.

More About Backflow Prevention

Diversified has a tariff requiring the installation of a backflow device for non-single family property uses as a condition of receiving water service from our company. The backflow device is owned by the customer and the customer is responsible for maintaining it and assuring that it works properly. Consequently, you are required to install, maintain and test annually a backflow device to continue to receive water service.

Please be aware that the backflow device that is installed on your property is a reduced pressure principle device (“RP”). An RP backflow pressure assembly contains two independently acting approved check valves together with a hydraulically operating, mechanically independent pressure differential relief valve located between the check valves, and at the same time below the first check valve. The assembly shall include properly located test cocks and tightly closing shut-off valves at each end of the assembly.

There are a number of companies and plumbers that can install backflow devices. However, after installation, the backflow device must be tested by a certified backflow prevention assembly tester recognized as a “general” tester by the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association (“CA-NV Section”, “AWWA”), the Arizona State Environmental Technical Training (“ASETT”) Center or other certifying authority approved by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (“ADEQ”).

The testing shall be in accordance with procedures described in the USC Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research, Manual of Cross-Connection Control, Ninth Edition, as it may be amended and updated from time-to-time. We require a copy of the certification for our files to show the backflow prevention device is operating properly. If the testing discloses that an assembly is not operating satisfactorily, you must have the necessary repairs performed and the assembly retested by a certified tester.

Once the backflow device is installed each customer shall provide Diversified with records of installation and testing. For each backflow-prevention assembly, these records shall include:

  1. Assembly identification number and description
  2. Location
  3. Date(s) of test(s)
  4. Description of repairs and recommendation for repairs made by the tester
  5. The tester’s name and certificate number

Each backflow must be annually tested and certified that it is in good working condition. This certification must be provided to Diversified Water Utilities, Inc. as a condition of receiving water service.
